ANESTECH, the innovative Project driving secure AI-enabled remote pre-anaesthetic assessment
The ANESTECH project has been the only healthcare initiative selected under the 2025 Strategic Projects in Cooperation Boost Programme, securing funding through a highly competitive process. Ivace+i Innovación has issued the decision for this call, to which 107 proposals were submitted and of which only 22 were awarded grants, representing a 20.6% success rate. In this multi-sector context, ANESTECH stands out as a strategic initiative for the digital transformation of the healthcare system.
The consortium delivering the project comprises ISECO Servicios Tecnológicos, as coordinator, S2 Grupo, Instituto de Biomecánica (IBV), the Hospital General Universitario de València Research Foundation (FIHGUV) together with Hospital General de Valencia, and Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). This multidisciplinary partnership combines technological, clinical, academic and cybersecurity expertise, ensuring a comprehensive approach geared towards generating tangible impact within the healthcare system.
The project, whose full title is “Pre-anaesthetic risk stratification through remote patient assessment using cybersecure AI-based tools”, will develop an innovative model for remote pre-operative assessment. The system will enable patients themselves, via their smartphone, to capture images and videos of the airway and complete a digital medical history questionnaire. These data will be analysed using advanced AI algorithms capable of performing remote airway assessment, estimating anaesthetic risk and automatically classifying patients into different risk levels. This will support clinical decision-making, optimise resources and reduce the need for face-to-face appointments.
ANESTECH represents a decisive step towards the secure digitalisation of the pre-operative pathway. It will enable early identification of low- and high-risk patients, reduce the clinical workload for healthcare professionals and improve access to the system, particularly for vulnerable groups or those with travel difficulties. The approach is also aligned with the priorities of the Specialised Strategic Innovation Committee (CEIE) in Health, focused on personalised care and the optimisation of healthcare resources.
IBV will contribute its extensive expertise in assessing people’s shapes and functions, as well as in biomechanical and morphometric assessment technologies. It has experience in developing AI algorithms and models aimed at studying people’s morphology and anthropometry, and biomechanical variables related to functionality, from markerless images and videos. Within the project, it is responsible for developing the technology and procedures to capture and analyse patients’ visual and movement data via their mobile devices, with the aim of establishing a new methodology for remote airway assessment in pre-anaesthetic evaluation.
The project has an approximate budget of €1.19 million and is supported by IVACE+i Innovación of the Generalitat Valenciana, within the framework of the Strategic Projects in Cooperation Programme. This initiative is co-funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Programme for the Valencian Community 2021–2027 and will run from November 2025 to December 2027.
This funding will enable the development of a pioneering solution with deployment potential in hospitals across the Valencian Community and strong potential for transfer to other healthcare systems. ANESTECH therefore consolidates a collaborative innovation model aimed at improving efficiency, clinical safety and quality of care in anaesthesiology.
