IBERUS Technological network of biomedical engineering applied to degenerative pathologies of the neuromusculoskeletal system in clinical and out-of-hospital settings

The mission of the IBERUS network is to strengthen the capabilities of the four centres that are part of the network, to provide the tools and knowledge to improve clinical care and integrated care through new products and services for the diagnosis, rehabilitation, treatment and care of degenerative diseases of the neuromusculoskeletal system in clinical and out-of-hospital settings.

Aims

The main objective of IBERUS is to encourage the effective management of smart health data through innovative technologies based on data recording, integration, interoperability and analysis.

During the project:

  • The definition of new indicators for clinical assessment will be investigated. They will be based on patterns of activity, movement and psychomotor response that can be used for diagnosis and prognosis.

  • Technologies will be developed for the functional characterisation and monitoring of people in the out-of-hospital environment through the combination of wearables, artificial vision, neuromorphic engineering, AI algorithms and integration of data from heterogeneous sources that enable the assessment of people's functional capacity.

  • This information, together with the patient's medical history, will serve to create new criteria and methods for decision support in treatment and rehabilitation, developing more objective procedures for prevention and patient follow-up.

  • A research infrastructure will be developed that will be scalable and open to collaboration, capable of efficiently collecting and processing smart health data while ensuring data security, privacy and interoperability.
