SAFESPORT. Development and validation of techniques to improve the conditions to practise sports safely

This project involves developing and validating techniques to make the conditions for practising sport better in order to improve sportspeople’s safety without impairing their performance.

The main aim of the project is to develop techniques and methods to help improve the characteristics and properties of sports’ equipment in order to practise sports safely while minimising the impact on sportspeople’s performance.
The purpose of the activity to be carried out through SafeSport is therefore to work on advances to obtain sports products like surfaces, balls and protections to enable sports to be done more safely while interfering as little as possible.

The main spheres in which research is planned are:

1. Generating criteria for improvement in behaviour against impact forces on sports surfaces, improving the balance between performance and safety throughout their use over time.

2. Progressing in knowledge of behaviour against the impact force of balls and protections, paying particular attention to acting on their negative effects without affecting play.

3. Working on possibilities for improvement in properties of friction and traction in surfaces, seeking to minimise the problems associated with grazing skin, for example, while maintaining the necessary properties to practise sports.
